Some businesses are born from ideas. Some are born from necessity. And some, the rarest kind, are born from legacy.
Ruchira Sakaria’s story belongs to the third kind.
Growing up in Davangere, Karnataka, Ruchira didn’t need a business school case study to understand entrepreneurship. She had a front-row seat every single day – watching her father build, decide, fail, recover, and grow. Those dinner table conversations, those quiet observations of her father navigating the highs and lows of running a business, they didn’t just shape her mindset. They became her mindset.
“Entrepreneurship was never plan B,” she says simply. “It was always the only plan.”
After marriage, Ruchira moved to Hubli and found the same encouraging spirit in her new family. Her father-in-law and husband didn’t just welcome her ambitions, they fuelled them. Because Shringar, the family’s wholesale innerwear brand, had already been quietly serving Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Goa for 45 years.
But Ruchira saw something others hadn’t acted on yet – a gap.
Thousands of women across India were living with daily discomfort, settling for synthetic fabrics that irritated the skin, simply because they didn’t have access to better. Shringar’s cotton-based, comfort-driven products existed. The supply chain knew their value. But the everyday woman didn’t.
That thought became her mission: to take 45 years of wholesale trust and put it directly into a woman’s hands.
Ruchira’s decision to launch the retail side of Shringar didn’t come from a boardroom or a market research report. It came from a simple conversation with friends. She shared the products, they felt the fabric, and without any prompting they said, this is far better than what we’ve been buying.
That was enough.
What Ruchira didn’t anticipate was her biggest challenge and it had nothing to do with logistics or funding. It was silence. In Indian culture, innerwear remains a deeply sensitive topic. Women who needed the product most were the least comfortable talking about it.
So Ruchira changed her approach entirely. Before selling, she starts a conversation. She speaks with empathy, warmth, and honesty – telling women that choosing comfortable innerwear isn’t something to be shy about. It is self-care. It is their right.
Slowly, one conversation at a time, the walls are coming down.
Ruchira’s first customer was a phone call away – a friend who trusted her recommendation without hesitation. That friend loved the product, told her circle, and her entire network became Shringar customers. They didn’t do any advertisements or paid promotions. Just one genuine relationship created a ripple effect.
Today, Shringar is reaching beyond Hubli through word of mouth, courier deliveries across cities, participation in events like Jito Utsav, and a growing presence on platforms like Gracenglam. Her husband and brother-in-law stand beside her every step, making Shringar’s retail journey a true family affair.
“Start small if you have to. Go slow if you need to. But never stop. Because one day, that small step you were afraid to take, will become the story that inspires someone else.”
Ruchira Sakaria didn’t build Shringar from scratch. She built it forward, carrying her father’s values, her family’s legacy, and her own unshakeable belief that every woman deserves to be comfortable.
