Not all journeys start with the end goal in mind or with proper planning. Some journeys just start within you very quietly until you realise they’ve become a part of your life.

We think of art as just a hobby, but for Neeraja, that wasn’t the case. As she grew up in Andhra Pradesh and Pune, she never thought she was set out to be an artist. Art was something she kept coming back to, no matter what, whether it be sketching or just having the perception to notice small details in day-to-day patterns.

As time passed by, the connection with art deepened, and it became something she couldn’t stay away from; it wasn’t just a hobby anymore.

The Roots of Art: Inspiration and Passion

When Neeraja was younger, she didn’t take the drive towards art seriously. She wasn’t trying to turn that into something meaningful. She simply thought of it as something to enjoy, as any kid would think so.

She wasn’t trying to make something meaningful. Sometimes, she would just draw without thinking. As hours passed by, she had no expectations or pressure; it was her curiosity that kept the drive alive. The freedom and no expectations made her connection with art special.

Once her teacher noticed her work and encouraged her to keep going. It wasn’t that big of a moment, but it stayed with her. Sometimes in our lives, we all need a small push of encouragement to keep going, and it shifts our perspective towards our own abilities.

Her art inspiration didn’t come from actual training, years of hard work or external influence. It came from within her.

As her life kept on moving in different directions, the connection she had with art remained intact; it didn’t abruptly end as a childhood hobby would. Over time, we can say resilience was part of her journey because it kept her going back to it.

Following Passion in the World of Contemporary Art

For a long while, Neeraja followed a traditional path. After her marriage, she began her Accountancy Internship. She thought of it as the right path, because it seemed stable and practical.

Alas, it made her feel incomplete.

Art was still in her heart, but not at the centre of her life. That seemed to change when she met Guru Rameshwar Broota. In his mentorship, she began to understand contemporary art. It began feeling more than just creating to her – it seemed to be about thinking, exploring, and developing a perspective. Choosing passion over stability never really feels right. It requires resilience, which gives the ability to continue even when you’re unsure about the future.

A Unique Contemporary Art Process Rooted in Nature

Nature is an important factor in Neeraja’s work. Her artwork draws inspiration from simple elements such as soil, water, textures, and patterns.

Before starting with a new artwork, she ponders on it, allowing the idea to take form gradually. This process can take days or weeks. She begins working on the idea only when she feels a connection to that idea. Her approach of waiting to feel connected to art is what makes her stand out from the crowd; she values time over output. This method showcases her resilience towards her work.

Overcoming Challenges as a Female Artist in India

Her journey wasn’t one without any challenges; it was like any other journey that required patience.

Navigating India as a female artist comes with expectations that are often overlooked. Her early challenges stemmed from perception, as art is not perceived as a serious career.

Her ability to balance personal responsibilities along with creative work added another challenge. There were times when it was hard for her to divide her attention.

Like any artist, hard work is required to get acknowledged. Like many female artists, she had to prove herself. Overcoming challenges became a part of her life.

Resilience Behind Recognition in Contemporary Art

In contemporary art, recognition rarely comes quickly – it is built over time through patience and resilience. Her journey reflects this reality, as her work gradually reached wider audiences through exhibitions across India and later on international platforms like England and Singapore. Yet, success did not eliminate challenges; moments of self-doubt, creative blocks, and uncertainty continued to persist. What changed was her ability to navigate them with strength. Overcoming challenges never truly becomes easy – you simply become better at handling them.

Creativity First: Balancing Passion and Commerce

For Neeraja, creativity always came first. This made her stand out.

The commercial side of art is important, but it has never been defined. her choices. It was never about the money for her; it was always about her passion.

She doesn’t focus on trends while working on her artwork; she focuses on making something meaningful.

Her resilience comes into play when it’s about maintaining the balance between the two.

As a wellness entrepreneur, the unique thing she has invented in her nutritional plan is that she knows substitutes or alternatives to everything that her clients dislike in their diet. Also, her green tea is better than other green teas available in the market because the green tea mixture of Complete Nutrition has visible ingredients like Ashwagandha, Mulati, Kesar, Elachi, fruit pieces and flower petals, which are all edible – each of these ingredients has high nutritional values and great benefits to the body. While the green teas available in the market, which are dip formats, lead to the consumption of a small percentage of plastics daily, and as Megha rightly says, these green teas might be the extracts and leftovers, which may have low or no nutritional value.

No journey can flourish in isolation.

Her mentorship shaped her understanding of art, and her creative community supported her in her learning and growth. Through constructive feedback, great conversation and shared experiences, inspiration thrives.

Conclusion

Neerja’s art form revolves around the themes of soil and environmental awareness. Further, she has planned to explore 3D art and installations.

This story is not about sudden success or dramatic events, but it is a story that is continuously inspiring and getting shaped by consistency.

From Neerja’s early longing for art inspiration to overcoming challenges as a female artist, her story very powerfully showcases persistence and belief.

It’s not easy, but stopping isn’t the answer; resilience is – that’s what her story tells.
