For over a decade, Simran Bhatti was an IT engineer. Today, she makes laddoos that parents across Bangalore trust.
Simran Bhatti grew up in a Punjabi household in Patna where food was never just food. It was an intention. Her mother, despite holding a full-time job and raising three children, would still find time to make laddoos and homemade snacks from scratch. She had a quiet dream of turning that passion into a small business someday. But it remained just that – an idea. Between a reputed government job and the pull of everyday life, the dream never made the leap from thought to action. There was always a reason to put it off for later.
Simran watched all of this growing up. She didn’t know it then, but she was carrying that dream forward without even realizing it.
Her educational journey took her across Visakhapatnam, Chandigarh, and Delhi before she finally settled in Bangalore, where she spent over a decade as an IT engineer – working exclusively with startups like redbus, Ezetap(now Razorpay) and Yubi(Fintech). She understood business instincts, product thinking, and what it meant to build something from nothing. But starting her own venture? That felt like someone else’s story.
Until her son was born.
When her son started solids, Simran became fiercely intentional about ingredients. Returning to work made daily cooking difficult, so she started preparing laddoos, cookies, and millet-based snacks at home – nutritious, simple, and made with things she could actually name. Friends loved them. The family asked for more. But Simran needed to know if strangers would feel the same way.
She had recently moved into a new apartment society where nobody knew her. She sold her snacks to a few residents, quietly and without expectation. One of them, Sonia, ordered Ragi Laddoos. Within minutes, a message arrived – the laddoos had disappeared at home and her entire family wanted more.
That message from a stranger changed everything. Halesnax was born.
Walk into any supermarket and the healthy snack aisle will overwhelm you with promises. Flip the packet over and the reality hits differently, refined sugars, preservatives, and ingredients that require a chemistry degree to understand.
Simran had lived this frustration as both a consumer and a mother. So Halesnax was built around one clear idea – real ingredients only. Millets, dates, ghee, nuts, seeds. Nothing hidden, nothing processed. She got her recipes reviewed by a nutritionist, constantly looking for ways to improve their nutritional value without compromising on taste. She ran lab tests to validate nutrition and shelf life, and participated in pop-up events to understand what customers actually wanted. The goal was never just ‘clean’- it was to build snacks that were genuinely functional, without tasting like a compromise.
Walking away from a decade-long IT career was not a small decision. Her parents took time to come to terms with it – their worry came from love, not doubt. But as they watched Simran’s dedication grow and Halesnax begin to find its footing, hesitation turned into pride. Her husband became her strongest pillar through every challenge, including several family medical emergencies that tested the journey emotionally.
Her brother and sister never wavered. Their consistent belief in her gave her the courage to keep going on the days when self-doubt crept in.
Halesnax remains fully bootstrapped, built from personal savings, grown through reinvestment, with no external funding or loans.
What started as a one-woman kitchen operation has quietly grown. Today, Simran works with a small team of skilled people who follow her standardized recipes and quality processes to maintain consistency in every batch. For marketing, accounting, and compliance, she collaborates with trusted people from her network – because in the early stages of a startup, shared values matter just as much as skills.
In many ways, Halesnax is now bigger than Simran alone. It is her mother’s unfulfilled dream, finally finding its shape. It is her siblings’ encouragement, made tangible. It is a small but growing team that believes clean snacking should be accessible to every family.
“Believe in yourself and take the first step, even if it feels small. Do not wait for the perfect time. Growth begins when you choose courage over fear.”
